The Department of Communication Studies at Colorado State University is committed to the liberal education of all its students with a focus on the ethical obligations of citizenship in a diverse and democratic society.

 

The Department actively engages in three intersecting areas of teaching and research:

1) Media and Visual Culture seeks to understand the complex role that the culture industries play in society. Faculty and students in this area examine popular culture, film, television, and the Internet from historical and interpretive perspectives.
2) Rhetoric and Civic Engagement concerns the ways that public discourse is used to persuade and influence others. Faculty and students in this area explore a wide array of communication practices, ranging from political speeches to social movements.
3) Relational and Organizational Communication explores the social interactions between individuals and cultures. Faculty and students in this area study various types of relationships, ranging from the interpersonal and organizational to the co-cultural and intercultural.
