Happy Spring!

I hope this note finds you doing well and that you are ready for the final push to the end of the semester. As we begin to think about the end of the spring semester, I’d love to spend some time looking forward with you.

First, you are invited and encouraged to come to our spring alumni panels. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from and connect with our fabulous alumni. These will be on Thursday, April 24 at 9:30 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m. in LSC 372-374. More information on the alumni who will be joining us will be sent out soon.

Next, we are currently recruiting our next cohort of students for membership in Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society. Membership in honor societies is a symbol to those outside of the university of your expertise and experience. I, myself, was an inductee into Lambda Pi Eta in 2000. Membership connects you with Comm Studies alums from numerous different colleges and universities and is a great sign to potential employers. Applications will be accepted through Friday, April 18th and you can apply for Lambda Pi Eta membership on our application page.

Additionally, I want to share that the department has created a $5,000 pool of money to support undergraduate research. Starting next fall, if you present your research at a conference, you can apply for $1,000 in travel support. We’ll roll out more information about this process in the coming months. We hope it shows our commitment to undergraduate research and encourages you to think about where you might take some of your projects.

Finally, many of you have signed up for summer classes. If you haven’t already, please take a look at our course offerings for this summer. Summer is a great time for you to focus in on a class or two, get ahead in your studies, and keep your skills sharp. This summer we are offering most of our classes in an online format to provide you with maximum flexibility. Additionally, if you are interning this summer, don’t forget that you can get credit for your internship. Learn about for-credit internship requirements and opportunities.

I know a lot of you are juggling quite a bit and there continues to be so much uncertainty in the world. It can be hard to look forward. I hope this note gave you some things to look forward to and that you all have a great April. Please remember I am here if you ever need to chat, and I have a bowl full of snacks in my office if you ever need a pick me up.

Student Opportunities: Lambda Pi Eta

The image shows a group of people gathered for the fall 2024 Lambda Pi Eta induction ceremony. There are ten individuals standing and sitting in a meeting room at the Lory Student Center, with a large screen behind them. Several of the people are holding certificates with the "Lambda Pi Eta" name visible on them. The group includes students and faculty. Some are holding yellow cords along with their certificates, which are given to honor society members for graduation. Three small red candles are placed on a table covered with a white tablecloth in the foreground. At the bottom of the image, "Lambda Pi Eta" is displayed in large yellow-green text on a dark green banner.

Our Mu Sigma Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta offers students an excellent opportunity for academic recognition at Colorado State. As the official undergraduate honor society of the National Communication Association (NCA), members receive special honor cords, certificates, and pins at graduation. Beyond these physical symbols, membership connects you to a national network of communication scholars and professionals that extends well beyond your time at CSU.
