Happy Friday. I’ll tell you what, it was a bit of a shock to return to the cold and snow of Fort Collins after the sun and warmth of California. Nearly all of us at WSCA worked hard giving and listening to presentations, staffing our graduate open house booth, making sure the programs we planned (Andy was program planner for the Communication Theory Interest Group) went forward smoothly. I am not going to hide the fact that I also spent time with my oldest friend in San Francisco, with wonderful alumni at Olivetto in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland, and meditated for a bit on the beach in Santa Cruz (the conference theme was mindfulness in communication, after all). Those things happened too.
But I am happy to be back with all of you digging into the middle part of the semester.
Lots of good news to share from the community this week.
For example, Karyl will be presenting a 1.5 hour break out session at the 2018 NAADAC (the association for addiction counselor professionals) conference. The session focuses on resilient families. Great example of engaged communication scholarship from our faculty, weaving Karyl’s communication research, teaching, and community commitments.
Meanwhile, Ziyu has two new online first publications. The first essay analyzes the data about graduate students and parenthood that we heard a bit of in colloquium this fall. The second is out of Ziyu’s work on Chinse Post80s generation meaning of work.

It is a short, sweet note this week. Fortunately, I get to see many of you over these weeks for our annual evaluation meetings. I am always struck as I read your materials and talk with you in the office just how committed, skilled, smart, and creative all of you are. You are doing amazing things. I am honored to hang out with you!
