Welcome to Communication Studies

Communication is the study of what it means to be human. Our shifting world demands from us exactly what Communication Studies has always offered: a deeply relevant discipline that teaches us how to be and act human in the face the unknown.

We need to understand how families, friendships, organizations and communities are built within and across difference. We need to understand how we use mediated communication to create rich and multifaceted worlds. And we need to understand how our public communication can foster humane and compassionate values across or inside diverse and complex contexts.

These are the foci of our study, teaching and practice in the Department of Communication Studies. Our ability to succeed and thrive as an informed, inclusive, and compassionate society depend on advancing these foci together as students, scholars, and citizens.
