Engaging the Responsibilities of Communication: Research, Teaching, and Communities
Colorado State University’s Department of Communication Studies will host the 2020 NCA Doctoral Honors Seminar from June 7 to 10 in Fort Collins. The Doctoral Honors Seminar brings together promising doctoral students and distinguished faculty members from across the discipline and around the nation to discuss current topics in Communication.
The theme of this year’s seminar is, “Engaging the Responsibilities of Communication: Research, Teaching, and Communities.” The seminars will involve student presentations and feedback sessions as well as mentoring programs by faculty seminar leaders. Approximately 30-45 doctoral students are chosen to participate based on submitted papers and recommendations from their advisors. Ten to 15 participants in each of the three following areas will be selected:
Communication Studies: For students whose work engages verbal and nonverbal aspects of interpersonal, small group, co-cultural, intercultural, and organizational communication from critical, interpretive, and/or social-scientific perspectives.
Media Studies: For students whose work adopts critical and/or cultural perspectives on film, television, new media, video games, popular music, and other forms of mediated culture.
Rhetoric: For students whose work involves rhetorical analysis of a variety of texts and situations including but not limited to speeches, political discourse, architecture, photographs, and museums.
