On Wednesday, October 23, join us for two insightful alumni panels with esteemed communication studies graduates who will speak about their careers and professional experience since graduating from CSU. Sessions include:
- 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., LSC Room 304-306
- 2:00 – 3:00 p.m., LSC Room 324
All communication studies students and those interested in the major are welcome to attend! This is your chance to learn from those who have been where you are—hear their stories, ask questions, and walk away better prepared to launch a fulfilling career doing what you love.

Morning panelists
Sofi DeRose (B.A. ‘24)
Sofi (she/her/hers) graduated from CSU in May 2024 with a B.A. in Communication Studies and a minor in General Sociology. Originally from Parker, CO, Sofi decided to stay in Fort Collins post-graduation and is now a contracted marketer for musicians, music organizations, and law firms. She is also a Marketing Coordinator for KRFC 88.9 FM. where she works with venues, artists, management teams, and promotional teams. Although Sofi didn’t expect to go into marketing, she loves the field and uses what she learned at CSU in the position. Outside work, Sofi enjoys anything music-related, traveling, spending time with friends, and loving her two cats. She also loves connecting and building relationships in her community.
Leslie Schenk (B.A. ‘21)
Leslie Schenk is a Deputy District Attorney for the City and County of Denver. During law school, she worked in the office’s Cold Case Unit and is now a Deputy in County Court, pending admission to the Colorado Bar. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Denver in 2024, earning the Public Good Distinction and Excellence in Alternative Dispute Resolution Award. A Fort Collins native, Leslie also graduated from CSU in 2021 with a B.A. in Communication Studies and minors in History and Legal Studies. During her time at CSU, Leslie was an associate with the Center for Public Deliberation and the president of Concert Choir.
Kristin Slattery (B.A. ‘03, M.A. ’05, ABD Ph.D. ’21)
Kristin Slattery is a dynamic professional with a passion for creating change through human centered workforce development and performance enablement practices. With extensive experience in talent and leadership development, Kristin has successfully designed and implemented comprehensive strategies that foster growth and drive performance. Her expertise in change management and organizational change enables her to navigate complex global initiatives and create sustainable solutions. Kristin worked as an instructor in the Communication Studies Department at CSU for 15 years, as the Talent Development Manager for the City of Fort Collins, and now at Woodward, Inc. as the Global Director of Talent Development.

Alicia M. Whiteley (B.A. ‘23)
Alicia M. Whiteley graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, specializing in Communication and Media Studies. As a proud first-generation graduate and a member of Lambda Pi Eta, Alicia is passionate about communication and its impact. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Living Her Legacy, a local non-profit in Fort Collins, and is actively involved in their communications and marketing team. Through this role, she has gained valuable experience in marketing, content creation, and strategy development. Alicia has a deep love for the written word, and her ultimate love language is words of affirmation. She strives to foster strong communication in both her personal and professional life.
Elizabeth Terry-Emmot (B.A. ‘00, M.A. ‘02)
Elizabeth Terry-Emmot is the primary advisor for the International Studies Major and also advises for Political Science and Sociology. At CSU, Elizabeth has taught Public Speaking, led a first-year seminar on International Studies, and facilitated Ram Connections mentoring for freshmen. She has also advised undeclared students and various majors within the College of Liberal Arts. She is dedicated to teaching students how to manage their education and lives while in college in order to move them towards independence and self-sufficiency.
Marty Lenz (B.A. ‘90)
Marty is a respected and award-winning media professional with over two decades of creating, curating, and providing information and news on multiple platforms. For 25 years, Marty has been on the radio airwaves and in radio programming. Along with this extensive radio heritage, he has another 20 years of experience working in television as a host and contributor on a number of shows and programs, further enhancing his reputation as a “Go To” and “In The Know” media professional. Marty has also appeared in numerous television commercials, videos, and in print, on national ad campaigns. Marty is the recipient of the CSU Distinguished Alumni Award in 2024.
