2023 Gravlee Lecture

Please join us on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. in Clark A103 to hear Dr. Alisa Perren discuss her 2021 book, The American Comic Book Industry and Hollywood.

Dr. Alisa Perren

Perren is a professor in the University of Texas at Austin’s Department of Radio-TV-Film and Co-Director of their Center for Entertainment and Media Industries. Her research and teaching interests include media industry studies, television studies, and US film and television history.

In addition to The American Comic Book Industry and Hollywood, Perren is also the author of Indie, Inc.: Miramax and the Transformation of Hollywood in the 1990s (2012) and co-editor of Media Industries: History, Theory, and Method (2009). Her work has appeared in a range of publications, including Film QuarterlyJournal of Film and VideoJournal of Popular Film & TelevisionTelevision & New MediaCinema Journal, and The Routledge Companion to Media Industries.

Perren is has also served as a media industry consultant and speaker on topics such as changing work conditions and shifts in streaming distribution practices.

G. Jack Gravlee Endowment

This lecture series is made possible by the endowed fund created in honor of G. Jack Gravlee upon his leaving the Department of Communication Studies in 2004. Gravlee came to CSU in 1964 and served as Chair from 1975 to 1990. His specialty was British Public Address. The Gravlee Lecture series brings eminent communication scholars to campus for presentations and interaction with students and faculty.
