All graduate students interested in careers in communication are invited to join this virtual alumni panel.

On Monday, April 28 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Katie Patterson (Infrastructure Communications Manager, City of Arvada), Hayley Blonsley (Senior Project Manager within the Office of the Deputy City Administrators for Operations and Budget and Finance), and Emily Amedée (Director of Academic Operations, Woodward, Inc.) will speak on Zoom (https://zoom.us/j/94300782023) about their careers and professional experience since graduating from CSU. They will also be available to answer student questions.

About the Panelists

Katie has been the Infrastructure Communications Manager at the City of Arvada since 2022. In this role, she manages public communication and engagement efforts to help ensure community members receive timely and relevant information on infrastructure projects and programs. This includes topics like transportation, water, recycling and trash services, and much more. Prior to this Katie worked as a Project Manager and Community Engagement Specialist (two separate roles) with Denver Public Schools. Her bachelors and masters are in Communication Studies from CSU with a focus on public participation. She joined the Center for Public Deliberation as an undergrad and continued with the program through graduate school.

Hayley Blonsley holds degrees from the University of Nevada, Reno and CSU’s Deliberative Practices program. After managing a deliberative engagement program at Wabash College for 3 years, she joined Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office in Portland as a policy advisor. Now reporting to Deputy City Administrators, she leads projects with structural, policy, and financial implications across multiple bureaus. Hayley volunteers with Minds Matter helping low-income high school students prepare for college. In her free time, she enjoys the PNW sunshine, explores noodle restaurants, participates in a book club, and watches dating shows with her partner and mini-Aussie, Indy.

Emily leads the strategy, design, and implementation of learning programs and operations for Woodward, a global aerospace and industrial engineering and manufacturing organization. Previously, Emily served as the Director of Academic Operations at Colorado State University System, where she directed a multi-million-dollar portfolio and played a key role in scaling academic programs, cross-campus collaboration, and student success outcomes by driving system-wide alignment. Emily is a double alumna of Colorado State University with a Ph.D. and B.A. in Communication Studies and an M.A. in Conflict Resolution from the University of Denver. Beyond her professional achievements, Emily is a ferocious reader, domestic horticulturist, and a wannabe surf bum. She loves a good laugh and enjoys time outside, adventuring with her family and two German-Shorthaired Pointers.
