On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, Associate Professor Meara Faw will be a featured presenter for the College of Liberal Arts’ Great Conversations program. Her talk will focus on her research on interpersonal communication and health.

Faw’s work with local nonprofits on dementia and caregiver research

Dr. Faw, a woman with brown hair wearing a red shirt, sits at a table in a classroom with two other students while holding an empty saliva collection tube between her fingers.Faw, who runs the Research in Interpersonal Communication Collaborative as well as an annual summer study abroad program in Murcia, Spain, has been working with the dementia community in northern Colorado for the past six years.

Together with partners like Faw, Dementia Together and the Fort Collins Symphony launched the B Sharp Dementia Research Program in 2015 to help people with dementia and their caregivers attend symphony concerts and engage with the local community.

“I will talk about my role with the B Sharp/C Sharp teams (leading their care partner well-being efforts; collaborating on biophysio measures of wellness and on the Virtual Reality project) as well as how my work has evolved to a collaborative partnership with Dementia Together of Northern Colorado,” Faw says, “developing and evaluating the needs of dementia care partners.” Faw will also speak about her role as a volunteer mediator for the City of Fort Collins.
